Mild May
During the month of May, come in to the Rolla R&D Brewpub or St. James Taproom to enjoy special pricing on a pint of our Bird & Baby Mild ale. A light-bodied brew, this will be the first time it is available at both of our brewery locations.
With a wonderfully balanced mouthfeel, Bird & Baby Mild is refreshing, yet full of flavor. With having a lower gravity, this beer is readily suited for drinking in quantity. Light-bodied, but big on taste, this beer exhibits a low bitterness – almost sweet – malt character that is light enough for timid beer drinkers, but flavorful enough to please most die-hard beer fans.
We brew this ale as true to style as possible. Roasted barley provides a nutty, malt foundation with subtle hints of smoke. The malt is also responsible for the beautiful deep ruby hue. Genuine Fuggle hops bring a delicate harmony to this English style you’ll want to enjoy again and again.
Curious how this brew got its name? Acclaimed novelists and members of the Inklings writer’s group, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, were regulars at a traditional pub of unique character in Oxford, England named The Eagle and Child. Nicknamed The Bird and Baby, Tolkien and Lewis drank a beer similar to this brew while letting their creative juices flow at this inspirational location.
