Summertime Thirst Quenchers

Public House Brewing Company has several new beers to enjoy during the warmer days that lie ahead. Learn more about how you can quench your thirst during the summer season with the limited selection of craft beers below.

Mango Elusive IPA

This India Pale Ale is a variation of our beloved, year-round beer Elusive IPA. The Public House Brew Crew thought it would be fun to offer up a fruited IPA and it made sense to add mango to the citrus flavors and aromas of Elusive.

After doing a couple of 5-gallon batches, there was a decision to be made about when and where to add the mango fruit to the beer during the brewing process. The two test batches were released at the Rolla Research & Development Brewpub and we asked our customers to fill out a survey to give us precious feedback. We listened and moved forward with creating this version for you to enjoy now and throughout this summer, while supplies last.

ABV: 6.8% | IBU: 60 | SRM: 7

Strawberry Cream Ale

Public House Thorn and Heat lovers can rejoice! Allow us to present you with Strawberry Cream Ale for the season.

This delightful little number is another variation of a year-round favorite of ours. We took our Cream Ale and infused it with strawberry fruit. The result is a sessionable beer that presents mild strawberry aromas on the nose and a slight hint of strawberry flavor that compliments the malt notes you know and love of our Cream Ale.

With a slightly pink hue, this seasonal beer is crisp and clean with a wonderfully rich mouthfeel that will satisfy your thirst while kicking back and relaxing on your front porch during those warm weather days ahead. Yum!

ABV: 5.3% | IBU: 16 | SRM: 6

Dry Fly Session IPA

What is a session or sessionable beer? For those who are unaware, it’s a beer with a lower alcohol by volume (ABV) percentage. Meaning, it’s an easy-drinking beer.

With that in mind, the Public House Brew Crew’s love for creating sessionable beers drove them to craft Dry Fly Session India Pale Ale. They wanted to make an IPA with a lower ABV that still had the hoppy characteristics known of India Pale Ales. They succeeded.

With a 4.5% ABV, Dry Fly Session IPA has been dry-hopped with Citra and Amarillo hop varieties making it hop-forward, yet nicely balanced with aromas and mild flavors of citrus fruit that end in a clean, dry finish. You better snag a 6-pack of this beer featuring artwork by fly fisherman, Al Agnew, before it’s gone.

ABV: 4.5% | IBU: 45 | SRM: 2

Among the Willows Pilsner Lager

Drawing from our Midwestern heritage, the art on this pilsner lager features a gun shootout between a lone gunman running from an ambush by Union troops. This gunman has to go “Among the Willows” or evade the law.

Unlike the label art, this clean and crisp German Pilsner doesn’t break any laws from the German Purity Law 1516. (Reinheitsgebot). Among the Willows Pilsner Lager is refreshing and light-bodied with a light malt flavor that is balanced by medium hop bitterness. You can fetch yourself a six-pack of this seasonal, limited beer or find it in our variety pack with other Public House favorites starting in mid-to-late June 2020. Until then, come down to the watering hole (either brewery location) to taste it for yourself.

ABV: 5.4% | IBU: 40 | SRM: 2

You can find these beers at both the St. James Taproom and the Rolla R&D Brewpub, in stores that carry Public House products and online with shipping to Missouri residents here. Cheers!

Public House Updates

UPDATE: 4/03/2020

Public House Community,

During these unprecedented times, we, like so many others have suffered from significant downturn in business. This has forced us to stretch ourselves very thin between our locations. In an effort to stay concentrated on the community and prepare ourselves to come out on the other side of this stronger than ever, we have made a difficult decision. As of close of business today, Thursday, April 2nd we will temporarily close the Public House St James Taproom for curb side pickup and carryout service.

Our production team will still be hard at work producing your favorite Public House brews to ship to our wholesale and retail partners across the state. The Rolla brewpub will remain open!!! We will be extending our model to include delivery service starting tomorrow, Friday, April 3rd. We are also working on extending our curbside and delivery service to seven days a week.

For those of you that would still like to pick-up beer closer to St. James we will be offering curbside pickup of Public House beer at the St James Winery Tasting Room.

We will keep you informed as the situation evolves. For real-time updates per location, you can follow the local Taproom social media pages for updates.

Stay safe and take care,
Public House Brewing Company

This Creature Beer & The Annual Public House Blessing

Each year, Public House Brewing Company releases our Barleywine Ale during the Annual Ale-Iversary at the Rolla Brewpub. As part of this tradition, we ask local clergy to perform a blessing for our establishment and for the beer.

This is an age-old practice born from a long history of trial and error when producing wine or beer. People understood fruit and grain could produce wine or beer when left to sit in a container. They simply didn’t have the knowledge as to why it would happen.

Superstition took hold if a batch of beer was unfit for drinking. The poor quality was mystically blamed on evil spirits referred to as brew witches or beer witches. To ward off such forces, brewers would request the services of priests to perform blessings on the liquid and brewing establishment.

Below is the annual blessing performed during the Public House Brewing Company Rolla Brewpub Ale-Iversary and the inspiration for this year’s Barleywine Ale – This Creature Beer. This ale has a warming quality to it and is described as very rich and malty with a caramel-like aroma. Stop by the Rolla Brewpub on Saturday, January 12 to take part in this tradition and to taste This Creature Beer for yourself.

Prayer:
Almighty God…ever present…Father of all

Your watchful care reaches from end to end
And orders all things in such power
That even the tensions and tragedies of life
Cannot frustrate your loving plan for us

Bless this Brewing House and those who inhabit its environment
May it provide a place of comfort and communion to all who enter

Bless the Doorway of this place.
May it be a threshold to hospitality and good fellowship
May all who enter here do in safety and goodwill

May your Holy Presence reside within these walls
So that it may be filled with your grace
And enjoyed by those who seek its harbor

Bless the Common Room of this Public House
May it be a gathering place
Where acquaintances become friends
And friends grow ever closer
In their affection and respect
For one another

May your goodness fill the hearts
Of those who are her patrons
And those you have called to provide her care

Bless, O Lord, this Creature Beer,
Which thou hast designed to produce from the fat of grain;
That it may be a salutary remedy to the human race,
And grant through the invocation of thy holy name
That whoever shall drink it
May gain health in body and peace in soul

We ask these blessings in your name

Father…who is for us
Son…who is with us
Holy Spirit…who is within us

Amen

PHBC Joins effort to aid CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE VICTIMS

Public House Brewing Company invites the community to take part in a nationwide effort to raise funds for residents devastated by California’s Camp Fire wildfire.

We’ve committed to brew our version of Sierra Nevada’s “Resilience IPA” with 100% of funds raised going to help the wildfire victims. The Resilience IPA recipe was created by a California-based brewery, Sierra Nevada especially for this fundraiser and brewery founder, Ken Grossman, wrote a letter asking every brewery in the U.S. to do the same. The recipe has been shared with breweries that have committed to also brew the beer in hopes to get Resilience IPA in taprooms all over the country. The scale of the beer will hopefully create a solid start for the Butte County community’s future.

This is a tremendous collaborative effort spearheaded by Sierra Nevada with hundreds of breweries across the country joining in on the efforts. We wanted to contribute our part as a local brewer and allow our community to support the cause as well.

The collaboration beer will be available on tap at both Public House Brewing Company locations, Rolla and St. James, at a later date. Keep up with Public House Brewing Company social media for a future release date.

Donations can also be made directly to the Sierra Nevada Brewery Camp Fire Relief fund via the Golden Valley Community Bank Foundation website.

Halloween Party Brew

We’ve got what you need for your Halloween party. Stop by either brewery location and grab the perfect brew to share with your ghoulish guests.

May we recommend the following:

  • Bierleichen! is a distinctively complex Marzen-style ale that is amber in color making it perfect for October. We have some ready for pick up at both breweries. ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 25 | SRM: 7
  • Courtship Cranberry Ale is what happens when we collaborate with our campus partner, St. James Winery. Your guests will taste a crisp, clean cream ale blended with 100% cranberry juice, this seasonal incorporates the sweet and tart flavors of Cranberry wine – the winery’s most popular seasonal. ABV: 6.1% | IBU: 16 | SRM: 8
  • Our current Taproom Sampler is a definite crowd-pleaser. This pack includes 3 of the following beers: Rod’s Cream Ale, Frisco 1501 Amber Lager, Elusive IPA and our first-ever sour beer, Sour-Endipity. Sour-Endipity is a fun, little gem that came out of our R&D Brewpub in Rolla. This sharp, wheat ale is golden in color that is sour and effervescent with a dry finish balanced by real kiwi fruit.

Don’t get your Halloween haunt on until you have some PHBC in the house!

Giddy Goat Coffee Milk Stout Returns

Giddy Goat Coffee Milk Stout is returning for it’s second run and has more coffee flavor than before. Last year, we partnered with Giddy Goat Coffee House in Rolla, MO to create this coffee-infused stout, which soon became a popular seasonal for PHBC. We were excited to bring it back!

Public House Brewing Company Head Brewer, Matt Burkhardt, explains in the video below the cold brew process for the coffee in this dark, full-bodied ale. Find out more about what it takes to make this rich seasonal stout.

ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 25 | SRM: 40

Bierleichen is the official Oktoberfest beer

Watch out, because Bierleichen! is coming for you! The beverage’s name came from the German word, bierleichen, which is often what people are called during Oktoberfest celebrations. Its English translation is “beer corpse” – hints to the beer drinking zombie on the front label of the bottle.

Bierleichen! is a distinctively complex Marzen-style Lager that is amber in color and brewed using traditional German ingredients. This Lager delivers rich, toasty and bready flavors that finishes with a soft, malty sweetness.

Bierleichen! is Public House Brewing Company’s official 2018 Oktoberfest beer. We welcome you to join us for our Oktoberfest Saturday, September 29 at the Rolla R&D Brewpub. There will be beer and wine to sample from all over the state, food and live music too! Interested? Purchase General Admission and VIP tickets here: http://bit.ly/Oktob2018 to enjoy Bierleichen! and many others.

ABV: 5.5% | IBU: 25 | SRM: 7

Pints for a Purpose Show Me Conservation

April 2018’s Pints for a Purpose is in support of raising donations for the Conservation Federation. Founded in 1935 with the intent of creating a non-political conservation agency in Missouri, the Conservation Federation ensures the conservation of Missouri’s wildlife and natural resources, as well as the preservation of our state’s rich outdoor heritage through advocacy, education and partnerships. Through donations, this organization can continue to promote efforts for protecting the natural resources of our state.

Next time you are at the Rolla R&D Brewpub, ask your server how you can donate to our Pints for a Purpose program. Don’t forget to join us Wednesday, April 25 for our Charity Night, where a portion of every pint sold between 5 – 9 p.m. will be donated to this cause.

If you know of a charity in need of support, have them fill out the form and maybe they will be our next Pints for a Purpose!

Level 2 Fall Risk is here

We are excited to announce our second release in our CampusWerks series this year, Level 2 Fall Risk Imperial IPA. This IPA is fairly strong and intensely hoppy without being too complex or malty. There are hints of fruity aromas in the background from the addition of orange blossom honey. This Imperial IPA allows you to enjoy a clean, dry finish, with high drinkability.

With this release comes a story of inspiration. In 2016, Jason Stacy, brewer and brother of co-founder Josh Stacy, overcame a dire medical situation that required surgery and a long rehabilitation. He defiantly attempted to walk in the hospital before he was truly ready to go solo. After he took a fall, caregivers labeled him a “fall risk” and he had to wear a special bracelet. Thankfully, he has since recovered and is back in our brewhouse.

“I was really glad to come back to work a few months after my surgery. I lucked out that I didn’t forget how to brew. My recovery is going great and I’m happy to be brewing, bottling, kegging, and cleaning in the brewery. Level 2 Fall Risk is a double IPA with orange blossom honey, and a bunch of ‘C’ hops. It is very well balanced and a bit dangerous,” stated Jason Stacy.

Together, we created this India Pale Ale to celebrate. Kick back with this cold brew and enjoy the Level 2 Fall Risk Official Playlist. Cheers!
